Vitesse Mk1 (shiny bumpers, rear panel moulding above number plate). Possibly 2 litre (Sept 66 onwards). |

Mk2 had silver trim panel behind number plate and Rostyle-like wheel covers. The issue for this Mk1 is whether 1962 1600 or 1967 2 litre; I think 1967 2 litre as no coloured side flash and possible blob beyond number plate for 2 litre badge. -- Last edit: 2011-02-13 15:12:02 |

Most of these points are at best unlikely and in some cases wrong for the Mk2: The Mk2 only came with Rostyle-like wheel covers as standard. Some owners may well upgrade to sportier wheels eg Minilites or whatever, but it is nonsensical to suggest they would downgrade to ordinary hubcaps. No it is not possible. There is no silver panel. /vehicle_375166-Commer-VB.html shows the same view with slightly less shadow. Most early Vitesses, usually 1600s, had a wide side flash in contrasting body colour as part of the factory colour scheme. It is much less common on 2-litres, although some owners recreate it for themselves. My french is not good enough to understand this. Agreed - this lettering disappeared on the Mk2. But if you can see the picture clearly enough to state the lettering is absent, it is blindingly obvious that there is no "silver trim panel behind number plate". In short, there is no evidence of any of the features of a Mk2 Vitesse here. Therefore it is a Mk1, either a 1962 1600 or 1967 2 litre, and more probably the 1967 2 litre, and should be changed back to reflect this. -- Last edit: 2011-02-14 13:12:50 |
