^^ The legendary reverse lockout key mechanism. By mid-1980's the key gotten stuck in start position at one point. By the time I got it home, I disconnected the battery and attempted to troubleshoot the problem. By then, the key gotten stuck in start position again and had it towed to SAAB dealer to get the locking mechanism rod removed. By then I was driving with my first car that you can remove the key with any gear position. I currently own my car with manual transmission and still have a habit of putting in reverse before removing the key (My Aveo  ) |

This Saab did start on it`s own and drove up into that snowdrift . A spring in the ignition lock broke and if the car was in gear it would take off on it`s own. |

Can you imagine, how pissed and agressive I'd been, when I sat alone in a 1975 Saab 99 of a fellow and wanted to leave and lock the car - and it wasn't possible?  After a slightly choleric attack, I finally got the inspiration "Ah! Saab! Reverse gear!"  |
