Austin Eight Tourer, 1939+. (I'm not sure whether the Tourer was made after the War.) |

Yes - Aug 45-Jan 47. Can't read the plates clearly enough to try for a date. |

Plates are either fake or later than the car (maybe ex-MoD?). They seem to read *** DYV. |

xxx DYV "allocated in blocks" May 62 - Jan 63. Ex-MoD explanation seems convincing. |

The tourer and the two door saloon were not made post war. The four door 8 was completely discontinued in 1947 and not replaced by another small car until the introduction of the A30. Military Austin 8 tourers, some four seat and others two seat with extra luggage space were made between 1939 and 1944 only. |

Thanks, JfS, I rather thought that. On reflection I don't think this is ex-MoD; IIRC they all had solid, not pierced, pressed-steel wheels. So the plates are fake or re-registrations. -- Last edit: 2011-04-13 20:58:11 |

Agree not military version - also the horizontal side vents instead of vertical. |
