 What the heck would cause a 924 to explode the same moment a Tempo bites the tarmac? The vengeful spirit of Explorer4x4, I guess?

It's likely the Caprice was supposed to fall on the Porsche. If so, then clearly, the stunt was miscalculated, and the Caprice fell on the road right next to the Porsche. The pyrotechnics guy likely had a second or two of wondering what to do, and then just decided to hit the button and blow up the Porsche regardless. Gotta earn your salary...
