Why was 1980 not included in the possible range? Same front display with only nameplate differences which cannot be made out here. Listing as M.Y. 1980 as first of possible years. |

why is this listed without a model name? isn't it a Town Car? (It was previously listed as such) |

^Town Car was a trim level in 1980, not the model name. Also it has a solid bumper, making it a 82-84 Lincoln Town Car with that grill. |

so what is the model name, Continental, Versailles, Mark VI? -- Last edit: 2011-06-24 21:08:45 |

Mark VI headlights were squared too? Definitely not a Versaillies. |

I have no Idea I just looked in NADA and those are the only 3 Lincolns sold in 1980. |

In 1980, the model was "Continental". Starting with model year 1981, it was "Town Car". |

As Continental, it was fitted with hidden headlights. Link to "upload.wikimedia.org" Were they squared under doors? |

No. As a "1980 Lincoln Continental" it had exposed headlamps like the photo'ed car. The bumper was solid all of the production years. The only difference between the 1980 to 1984 front was in the nameplates. In 1980, the plate read "Continental". From 1981 through 1983, it read "Town Car". In 1984, there was no front nameplate at all. Only the Mark series had hidden headlamps. I'm not sure, but I think they were round. Here is a link to the 1980 brochure for a Continental sedan: Link to "www.oldcarbrochures.com" Note the solid bumper and exposed headlamps. You can just see the "Continental" nameplate over the left headlamp panel. (Nightrider, your link is to a Mark VI, not a Continental.) -- Last edit: 2011-06-24 21:51:13 |

Well, I was seriously thinking that Continental Mark VI was sole fullsize model in that years.) |

Both the Lincoln Continental and the Continental Mark VI had beautiful, formal sedan lines that year. Would love to own an '80 to '84 Continental/Town Car or an '80 to '83 Mark VI Sedan. (IMO, they ruined the Mark line in '84 with the new, blob-like Mark VII. Never cared for that car and it did not come as a sedan.) |

Agreed. Later Marks had nothing to do with formal, top-of-the-line image of oler ones. Did Mark VI sold bad? |

Don't have the sales figures. Saw lots of them around back in the day and always admired them. |

Thanks for pointing that out; I never noticed the Mark VI had a different front bumper in 80 & 81: Link to "www.oldcarbrochures.com" Sales were way down for Lincoln in the years 80-83, but I don't think that was because of the models they offered. The Town Car hit new heights later in the decade, despite being very much the same car first offered in 1980. The economy and new cars sales were terrible for everything in the early 80s.
