Looks like a slightly later Special, which I think was only sold in UK as 1501. Estate, not wagon. |

Why later? British fansite says that since 1972 in UK there were 1301 and 1501 (only as Special, but both in sedan and wagon form). |

Correct - 1301 Special was sold in UK alongside 1501 Special, both from Aug 71 until Aug 75 and as saloon and estate, with Special being the only trim offered for these years. Odd because I remember the 1501 very well in UK, but not the 1301 at all. My dad had a brand new 1501S as a lease car for all of 6 hours. He collected it from the dealer, filled the tank and drove home. When he arrived we all came out to look, he opened the boot and it was swimming with petrol as the filler had not been sealed. Fire brigade had to come to drain the car - a major incident for a quiet Birmingham street - and it was eventually taken away on a trailer and we never saw it again. Dad refused to have another so he was given a Rapier instead, which he liked but was too cramped for us family, so that was swapped for our first Chrysler 180, which amongst other things was a brilliant car in the snow. Only seven 1501s and five 1301s still on road in UK - none of them Specials. I assume the rust got the others rather than other petrol-related disasters. -- Last edit: 2011-07-23 04:00:02 |

So we have two members whose Dad's drove Chrysler 180, dsl and wickey. I had my first high-speed experience in a 180. When I'd been a Kindergarten-boy, I've always whimpered, until visitors with cars, which were new for me, took me for a ride. I was so impressed, that I haven't forgotten it until now, 35 years later, when friend of my Dad drove 140 km/h with his 180 My Dad had only a 1968 VW 1300... Btw: at these whinge-caused trips around the block I made the -until today- only experiences with a Skoda (110 R) and a BMW (1975 520). Since that times, I never ever sat in any other cars of these brands. -- Last edit: 2011-07-23 18:23:48 |

A colleague had an N-reg 1501 estate, then only 3 or 4 years old; the model's appearance had, perhaps, become slightly more refined by 1974/75. 140kmph doesn't seem very fast for a Chrysler 180. Fastest I've driven in a car is a speedo-indicated 90 mph in a C-reg Skoda Rapid 130, which handled very well and felt safe at speed. |
