 @no-a: it's nice that I'm not the only one that tries to put these 1958-1968 Mopars together by applying a uniform code, but it's starting to become a bit of a mess with regards to the third field for many of the recent mass edits. For example 1958 currently uses LY1-M-27 while 1959 uses MY1-M 635.

These 3-digit codes are model codes, 635 in this case, and they do belong to respective Mopar products, but this field should be occupied by the body style code instead, as these are far more widely applied and easier to use and remember. In this case it's -27 for the convertible. These codes are universal for all Mopar products, while the model codes pertain to a specific year and trim level's Mopar product. As we already have MY1-M, which translates to 1959 (M) Imperial (Y) V-8 (1) M (Mid), it's only logical that the body type follows and not essentially a repetition of what was previously said. This becomes very apparent when you view the recently edited 1965-66 Chryslers and you know what the individual letters mean. Take this one right here. It basically says: 1966 Chrysler New Yorker Town Sedan 1966 Chrysler New Yorker Chrysler New Yorker Town Sedan.

635 in this case translates to: Imperial (6) Crown Imperial (3) Newark (5) <- the manufacturer's plant should definitely not be in the chassis code as it's impossible to know without looking into the engine bay.
And it should be 7 - Imperial Assembly Plant, Detroit so not sure where the 5 came from in the first place. A typical 1959 Imperial serial number looks like this: M637103291
