Saturn didn't make the EV1. it was sold by General Motors as a GM EV1 |

A great scene...Homer launches the EV1 into the water alleging that the car is electric, and therefore, the car can go underwater... |

The GM EV1 Got put out of comission by the oil companies. The remaining 800 or so that were for sale or to be shipped were directly sent to the crusher. See the movie "Who Killed the Electric Car" for more details. |

Well, now the electric car is finally here. Chevy Bolt; 238 miles EPA range, 0-60 in 6.5 seconds! $37.5K before incentives! The electric car, is here. I'm sure you can buy one used in 3 years for $20K or so. It's finally happening. There is another episode of the Simpsons featuring talk of electric cars. Featuring a roller coaster ride sponsored by the oil producers of america. Season 14 episode 7. I assume very briefly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X2HX5wsQVEA -- Last edit: 2017-02-12 01:36:09 |

He should have. Ever since this show began. |

Not even close. Truly, they made a Electric Car in the 1990's, it wasn't cheap, and they probably didn't want a Lawsuit from the lead batteries, or some other thing that is gonna go wrong |

The EV1 was never sold by GM, they were all leases which were due to be returned to GM at the end of the lease term (usually three years). There was no buyout option like most standard car leases. The reason GM destroyed the cars was simply due to the costs required to keep them on the road. They were a money-losing proposition for GM. There's no conspiracy by the oil companies. |

The first model year was also 1997, not 1996. It was introduced in 1996 but as a 1997 model. It was then updated in 1999 for a second model year. I can’t find sales figures after 2000 though. |

1999 was the final model year. The cars stayed on the road until 2003 though, that's when GM called them back at lease end. |

So the model run year should be 1997-99. We have some listed as 1996 though. |
◊ 2019-12-18 16:15 |
That's correct. 1999 was the only year of the Gen II. |

if i remember well, Toyota did lose money on the 1st gen Prius but did not acted this way i think GM just didn't wanted to offer any kind of pieces or services for it once the lease was over |
