This is a Checker Superba of 1960-1961.The Superba had -contrary to the Marathons- round direction indicator lights placed in the grille while the Marathons have rectangular direction indicator lights placed outside the grille. Also , Marathons of that period had no bumper overriders .The Superba was built between 1960 and 1963. |

Actually, this is much more likely a Checker model A9 taxicab (1959 to 1961). The reasons are as follows: - chrome bumper with no center dip (center dip was added in 1962) - turn signals in 1-piece grille (standard in all Checkers from 58-62) - movie car Checkers of that era would more likely have been a taxicab (Superbas were produced in very low numbers) The Marathon model came in 1961 replacing the Superba Special, and looked basically the same, except for upgraded interior features and some side trim. Bumper overriders were available as options on all Checkers. The rectangular turn signal lamps mounted to the body came in 1962. -- Last edit: 2024-06-23 17:07:56 (antp) |

Early A9's actually had plastic hood ornaments. Around 1960 A9's switched to a metal hood ornament. The pictured car appears to have a metal ornament. Model year designation was not important to Checker as was the model number so weather this is a 1958-1961 A9 is really not very important rather than weather it is an A9 or Superba. The offical introduction of the Superba was in February of 1960 however Superbas were produced and sold in 1959....I know that does not make sense, but it is correct. I agree with CheckerTaxiStand that this is a A9, not a Superba |

The A10 Supurba was the civilian model, as was the A12 Marathon. The A9 and A11 were the fleet/taxi models. |
