It's the same as the sedan for the Morris and Austin estates so I will guess that will be the case here. |

In the pick-ups too? |

As far as I can tell those were Argentina only as there was never a pick up version of the Farina here. The older A55 Pick Up stayed on sale. -- Last edit: 2011-09-22 19:51:52 |

Ah I see more clearly now. When I googled the name earlier I only saw the S2 model. The first series one is the same as the Austin A55 pickup. There was nothing similar to the series two listed there sold here as the older body design remained on sale until 1973. No idea about chassis code. The Austin version of the S1 is listed as HK6: /vehicles_make-Austin_model-HK6.html |

Can't give a definite answer for Siam Di Tella, but if an ADO code applies I think it would be ADO9. For UK ADO9 was first version across the Austin/Morris/Riley/Wolseley/MG ranges, all with 1489cc and launched 1958 onwards [B-series engined Farinas: Austin A55 Cambridge MkII (ADO9A), Morris Oxford Series V (ADO9M), MG Magnette MkIII (ADO9G), Riley 4/68 (ADO9R), Wolseley 15/60 (ADO9W)]. Austin, Morris and Wolseley saloons had pointed rear fins, MG and Riley smoothed fins. Estate had pointed fins but was only Austin or Morris - no other versions ADO38 was revised Farina ‘B’ models, all with 1622cc, launched Autumn 61 - Austin A60 Cambridge, Morris Oxford Series VI, MG Magnette MkIV, Riley 4/72, Wolseley 16/60. Cambridge and Oxford had revised front grilles but MG/Wolseley/Riley continued fronts as before; Austin, Morris and Wolseley saloons now adopted the smoothed rear fins from Riley and MG but estates continued to have pointy fins. For the various SDT saloons, they all seemed to have used the MG/Riley body with smooth rear fins which never changed between ADO9 and ADO38 - the only differences were the engine. So ADO9 for all 1489cc versions and ADO38 for all 1622cc versions. If the SDT traveller has the MG or Riley front grille on the estate body, it is a unique hybrid which was never offered anywhere else, and would not visibly change between ADO9 and ADO38. But as http://www.cocheargentino.com.ar/s/siam.htm#argenta says it continued to use the 1489cc engine, there is nothing to suggest a change to ADO38, so if you feel it has to have a code, I suggest use ADO9. For the Argenta pick-ups the 61-63 model looks the same as UK version HK6 (based on previous Austin A55 Mk1) as Sandie's comment. 63-66 was unique for Argentina version designed in UK as ADO49 "Farina ‘B’ Pickup truck based on Riley version of ADO9/ADO38; built and sold in Argentina." Most of this information taken from http://www.aronline.co.uk/blogs/2011/06/25/development-codes/ . These codes are very likely questions for the imcdb exam, so revise them well. |

Update: see also Link to "www.aronline.co.uk" and http://www.aronline.co.uk/blogs/2011/09/03/around-the-world-argentina/ - it seems more complicated than I had realised with Riley, Morris and MG badged saloons and Riley pick-up after SDT names were dropped, plus some early pointed wing SDT saloons. But I think the separation into ADO9 for all 1489cc versions and ADO38 for all 1622cc versions, plus ADO49 for the 63-66 Argenta pick-up is still valid. -- Last edit: 2011-09-22 21:42:54 |
