Fairly sure in UK they were sold by Austin through their dealer outlets, but (1) a few years before my time so would need someone else to confirm exact situation (2) I guess this is a much debated chestnut (3) we ain't got no other Austin Metropolitan entry. So follow the herd. |

I'll leave it Austin Metropolitan for now, I'm willing to set a precedent. |

I have to admit I've always thought of it as Austin Metropolitan, but Google Search results seem about equally divided. The first one I ever saw was in the Austin showroom at Longbridge. |

Seems UK name was just Metropolitan 1500 - quote "Right hand drive versions (Series III) were announced in April 1957 and although sold through the Austin Dealerships it was still called ‘Metropolitan 1500’." and for passing info if useful elsewhere "Australia also imported them where they were known as Nash Metroploitan." - http://www.austinmemories.com/page29/page29.html . The herd were right.... |

Well, there you go ... I found both of the links sandie and dsl gave, which I why I said results were equally divided. I mean, if they can't agree north of the Border, what chance for the rest of us? ![]() -- Last edit: 2011-10-11 20:33:45 |
