The HR plate dates from about 1974 but obviously the car is much earlier than that. |

1960+ 220 S [W111]. Maybe these were imported from South-Africa? |

I am fairly sure that all of our new M-Bs came from Germany but there is always the possibilty that it had been imported by someone who immigrated here. In the 1960s, in particular, when imports of new cars were very restricted, thousands of cars came in, mostly from the UK with immigrants. As far as the registration plates are comcerned there could be several reasons why they have been replaced. If one plate gets lost it only costs a few dollars to replace them with new ones. Interesting to note that this car does not have a current registration sticker - either the old system of a sticker at the top of the windscreen or the new type which came in the early 1990s of a white credit card sized document which should be at the lower left side of the windscreen. -- Last edit: 2011-11-09 08:04:05 |

Plate details. Might be able to see where it was sourced by the chassis/VIN. |
