Is an Audi A3 Sportback, and 4 stars

On the US site of Audi they only call it "A3". They do not seem to have the non-Sportback version that we have here in Europe. Then only A3, NOT SPORTBACK :D

But on the AU site they have both 3-door A3 and 5-door A3 Sportback.
This scene was made in Australia. Other cars visible on the picture are fake US cars.

I remember seeing a photo of the back of this car on Bluetights.net, a Superman fansite. Unfortunately the photo gallery is down at the moment, but the photo showed that it had an American-sized plate recess. Bluetights.net also said that this is Lois Lane's car.

But why make a fake Ford Crown Victoria if they can get a real US Audi ? :??:

The taxis are background cars, and they obviously decided that it wasn't worth importing lots of Crown Victorias. If I may recycle something I wrote earlier:

Explorer4x4 wrote Why would they want Falcons to look like Crown Vics? Why not just use the real thing?

The use of left-hand drive vehicles is heavily restricted in Australia, so there aren't very many American cars around. Not many viewers are going to notice if the background cars are wrong, so even a mega-budget blockbuster like Superman Returns isn't going to go to the expense of importing dozens and dozens of American cars for background use.
Quote For safety reasons (and in some cases political or economic reasons), some countries have banned the sale or import of vehicles with the steering wheel on the "wrong" side.

In Australia, with one exception, this is the case with non-vintage LHD vehicles, with the result that Australians who import such vehicles usually must pay sometimes thousands of dollars to convert them to RHD. The exception is for vehicles registered in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT); because the ACT is the seat of Canberra, the national capital, more than a few diplomats bring LHD vehicles with them and are permitted to use them unchanged. This privilege has been extended to residents of the A.C.T. also.

But this is an US A3 (then is called only A3). Look the little orange lights in those photos... They are only in the US model of the A3... ;)

Yes, as I live in Australia, I have to (unfortunatley) live with these rules. the car has to be over 30 years old to be registered in LHD, or have a speical permit

We did import dozens of cars from the US, but also used extra RHD cars and made them look LHD with fake steering wheels.
The Audi's were infact two LHD European cars flow in on 747 especially to appear in the film as they weren't released at the time.

But that does not match Walter's comment abour US-specs of the car

By what IMDB says not everything was filmed in Australia, so perhaps the Audi in Walter's thumbnails is indeed a US spec A3 (from when they filmed in New York) but not the one in tha main picture, no?

walter's thumbnail showing the sidemarker is from the same location as the Ford Transit, which proves that the A3s used for filming in Australia were US models.
