I seen that hill, that is Greenmount Hill. It is a section of the Great Eastern Highway that links Perth through Midland to the towns out east towards Kalgoorlie through the Sawyers Valley area. Near the bottom of the hill, is a truck emergency lane designed to stop runaway trucks, this was built after a truck travelling down the hill lost control and rolled onto it's side at the intersection of the Great Eastern Highway and the Roe Highway on the afternoon of the 30th December 1993. The accident killed one woman and injured 12 others (with 4 being serious) and was described by the Western Australia Police Service as one of the worst accidents to occurred in Western Australia for that year. The accident was also described by a witness that the aftermath look "like a battlefield". -- Last edit: 2017-10-09 15:15:45 |
