it's not a Mk2 going over the edge in final thumb, but a Mk1 with the small rear window. |

These were not sold as Mk.II on US market, like the E-type they had a different designation. Jaguar 3.8 Sedan, with the generation marker put like this [Mk.II] they will be sorted with the others. Mk.II is probably entered wrongly as well, it seems to have been Mark 2 in the literature I´ve seen so far. 1960 http://www.jag-lovers.org/brochures/mk2aus.html 1963 http://www.jag-lovers.org/brochures/63cat.html 1966 http://www.jag-lovers.org/brochures/mk2_66_us_gold.html 1960 UK example http://www.jag-lovers.org/brochures/mk2uk.html -- Last edit: 2011-11-22 13:54:26 |

Looking at this again several years later, there's a couple of odd things. Simply from the pictures as presented, I'd normally ID this as likely to be a 2.4 for grilles instead of inner lights and the narrow wheels/tyres. But 2.4 Mk.II was never sold in US as far as I can tell, which got both 3.4 and 3.8 in 1960, then just 3.8 for remaining years. The linked brochure pics show US 3.8s with inner grilles, so outer lights only; in UK the grilles on 2.4s are called horn grilles, but in US may have been for air con?? I'll try to do some digging to follow this in more detail. So this probably is a 3.8, but am still unsettled by the apparently narrow wheels/tyres. The new crashed thumb is a Mk.II and looks like 3.8 grille badge - red with white centre (2.4 was black around red, 3.4 red and red). |

I only needed to see the main photo to know that this car would end up going over a cliff....Something about 1970s American TV detective shows never bode well for red 1960s Jaguars. I seem to recall an E-Type being crashed in something I was watching as a little kid back then, and then I believe the show "Matt Houston", albeit early 1980s, had him drive an E-Type convertible into a fountain. HAHAHA....uh, I don't get it.... |
