Well yes and no as only the Chevy version was called the C/K series. The Sierra name was adopted for the GMC version. -- Last edit: 2011-12-15 00:21:26 |

Wikipedia and the IMCDb (and lot of other sites) say the opposite, nowadays With some extra light: There is indeed no way to decide between GMC or Chevrolet with just that point of view... But shouldn't this "unknown" GM truck be with its GM C/K-Series pals? => 1988 GM C/K-Series? -- Last edit: 2014-04-12 21:56:01 |

GMC did indeed give their trucks the Sierra model name starting in 1988 but C/K series would still be a correct label, and the only thing we can list this one as with what is shown. |

If I'm not mistaken, the "Sierra" name was first the one of a trim level, and became an alternate name for the 1988 GMC C/K pickup. And Chevrolet started to use the name "Silverado" (also issued from a trim level) for their C/K-series model in late 90s, when sales of the new Silverado truck had begun, but stocks of the older "Silverado Classic" had to be emptied. But the C/K-series label has been worth for both until the brand new "Silverado/Sierra only" of 1999. Am I all right? -- Last edit: 2014-04-13 03:27:17 |

Sierra was a trim level name on GMCs (C/K series, S-series, Jimmy etc.) until 1987. In 1988 The official model name for the GMC C/K- Series Trucks was Sierra (Like wise when the S-Series became Sonoma) Silverado was a Trim level on Chevrolet until 1998. In 1999 Silverado became the official model name of the pickup. |
