dead on, I don't see the CHMSL on top of the rear decklid which could mean 1985 only but it could also just be the quality of the capture |

What's that badge on the front quarter panel? There was no V6 option for 1985. |

I know there were 2.0FI badges on the front fenders of non V6 J-bodies too like: Link to "upload.wikimedia.org" but like i said I guess it could be a 2.8L V6 of the later version and we just can't see the CHMSL. On second thought could the V6 even be had in the non-Z models of this generation? Every 6-cylinder Cavalier I have had was a Z24 (2 86 Z24s, 89 Z24 91 Z24 and 94 Z24) -- Last edit: 2011-12-16 00:59:22 |

The RS series replacing from the Type 10 series did not come out until 1986 model year according to the Dammann book. |

rjluna is correct according to the 1985 Cavalier brochure the only Cavaliers sold were Base, CS and Type 10 (I always forget that Type 10 was sold in 1985 as well as 1984) So this has to be a 1986-1987 as it is definitely an RS |

I know that RS wagons had the V6 option (I've seen quite a few). There was no Z24 convertible until 1987 so it may be possible that it was an option on the RS version. Especially since Cavalier convertibles generally came with more "upscale" options than the other body styles. |

My 1987 RS was the 2.0 as for the 6-cylinder non Z24s I am sure they were available throughout the 2g2p generation (I had a 1991 Sunbird SE with the 3.1) |
