or a 1964+ VW 1500 S Variant ! |

I would say, it's a 1969-only MY. Shortnose, but already the new wheels. So this is a 1600 Variant, too. What a plate does it has? Norwegian? In Sweden they had a similar nationality-sticker (in Germany these stickers always have a black line around), but in 1976 in S they already had the new plate-system and not the smaller, pre-1972 plastic-plates any more. How long were the old versions allowed to use? |

Pretty sure it has norwegian plates pre april 1971. In norway they didnt change to new plates unless it changed owner or the owner wanted new plates. If you have a car older than 1971 you can use old style regplates in Norway. |

Station wagon with the engine in the rear... So, if the car breaks down, one would have to throw out all the luggage first. Major design flaw! |

You could have your luggage in luggagecompartment in front, so it would not fly around and kill if your in an accident. Major design advantage :P |

But the disadvantage shouldn't be ignored (for better understanding: Link to "passaratti.fusseltuning.de" ) - the space is small and flat, so not usable for the most standard-sized bigger suitcases - not usable for other even normal sized good (in the Beetle, except 1302 and 1303, you cannot even place a standard http://www.getraenke030.de/images/product_images/popup_images/163_1.jpg ![]() - the spare tire makes the luggage stinking for rubber - the fuel tanks " " " " " fuel - the window cleaner-tank " " " " " window cleaner (worst: spritus) Though my father bought his first real car, a 1973 Passat, when I was 7 year old, I still remember these idiotic problems, we had with the previous 1968 VW 1300 ![]() |

Then why would anyone need a 1600 Variant or any other station wagon, for that matter? Extra space for thin air? And unless one is hauling styrofoam, the Variant would be a tad back heavy ...Because of the added weight of the engine. ![]() -- Last edit: 2011-12-29 00:24:49 |
