This car is obviously imported to the UK from continental Europe, probably Germany and therefore the J-reg does not have any bearing on its age as it's not a Carlton but an Omega. So defaulted to 1990. |

That's not correct. This can't be a 1990 as it is illegal to use a number plate which passes off your vehicle as newer than it is within the United Kingdom, even for a vanity plate like this one. Being an import doesn't affect this as number plates in the United Kingdom are based on age rather than date of import. I'm not 100% sure which law enforces this, I have a suspicion it is either the Vehicle Excise and Registration Act 1994 or possibly an act which predates this, as I can certainly remember this always being the case. There are some issues with older imports up to the 80s, but I suspect this becomes clouded due to the legislation around personalised number plates such as J6WAD. -- Last edit: 2023-08-30 01:49:24 |

Oh yes! I forgot about the "plate can't be newer than the car" issue. So at least a 1991. Thanks! |

Plate suggests it could have been one of James Waddington's cars - creator of this Lotus Carlton/Omega website. "I used to be the proud owner of Lotus Omega (the non-UK version) number 128 and number 195 and most recently, Lotus Carlton 926." |
