To me it looks like a 170 S/DS – seems to have a belt moulding (visible on the side of the hood).

Agree. Also it's bigger and the shape of the fenders is different.

Hmm, what can it be? Too small, especially too flat for a West German one. The DDR-size comes closer, but to see a DDr-car in Britain, is absolutely impossible. 170-Benzes not that much. In the 50ies and 70ies there were quite many of them running there, same as with Opels (until the Wall in 1961, even until the last socialization of mid-size private companies in 1972, a few dealers for that brands with roots back in the pre-war times could survive and had some "organized" spare parts in their stock.

And sure, some high Nomenklatura-members had picked some Benzes, alle times until the collapse in 1989. A few (usally pretended) hyper-communists prefreed products of the class enemy, not the COMECON-trash...
