1989-1991 Chevrolet Blazer Silverado (V-1500) Has a dual axle trailer in tow. Blazer utilities could tow up to 6,000 lbs (2,721 kgs) of braked trailer. -- Last edit: 2012-07-10 05:24:20 |

It surprises me that they were not rated to tow more than that, my little Jeep Liberty is rated to tow 5K. |

GM could have just been playing it safe with the rating. They down rated four-wheel drive pickups. The two-wheel drives were always rated to tow more due to less weight. Currently the tow rating for some vehicles has been called into question. New tow ratings are due to be put in place soon (if they aren’t already). There are doubts about claimed tow ratings. Remember the Toyota Sequoia? Toyota boasted about its impressive 10,000 lb tow rating? How it could out tow the Expedition and GM SUVs? Now Toyota has been forced to reduced the tow rating to just 7,400 lbs, under the new tow rating standards. |

Yes my dad had a 2001 Toyota Sequoia (he just traded it in for a 2012 Highlander) a year after he bought it he tried towing a 9000 pound piece of equipment and even though the truck was rated to tow 10K the automatic transmission overheated after only about 20 miles and it had to be replaced (under warranty of course) Now anything that heavy is towed by my 03 Express G3500 (also rated for 10K and consistently tows close to that) The Liberty tows 4500 lbs pretty comfortably as I regularly tow my boat but I have no desire to see if it can tow anything any bigger. -- Last edit: 2012-01-31 05:27:13 |

For the rounded-line pickups the GM ratings were as follows: K-10 (V-10) 6,500 lbs K-20 (V-20) 6,500 lbs K-30 (V-30) 7,000 lbs C-10 (R-10) 8,000 lbs C-20 (R-20) 9,500 lbs C-30 (R-30) 12,000 lbs The four-wheel drive models were down rated due to all the weight the front drive axle, front prop shaft, transfer gearbox, and miscellaneous 4x4 components added. So my four-wheel drive V-10 Fleetside is only rated for 6,500 lbs. If it were a two-wheel drive R-10 Fleetside, it could tow more. |
