Badged Opel Kadett in ZA. 1992-94 due to the lack of black back panel and still having the black Opel badge. |

Incorrect. I live in ZA and I've owned several Opels. The Astra F sedan was badged as Astra here. Only the hatchback was badged as a Kadett. The model prior to this, had the sedan badged as a Monza and the hatch badged Kadett. The model that replaced the F, then dropped the Kadett name completely. The Astra G was badged as Astra Classic in sedan form and Astra in hatchback form. In ZA, there has never been a sedan badged as a Kadett. |

Okay, that makes sense. Thank you for clearing up. Sorry, at the time I'd read somewhere that hatches were called Kadetts and assumed that sedans were as well. -- Last edit: 2012-05-29 23:33:50 |

Thanks for the infos and -at first- welcome here, at this stomping ground for car nerds ![]() One question: were all Opels, which were sold in South Africa, locally build? Or were some models imported? |

Thanks for the welcome gentlemen :-) All Astra and Kadett models were locally built. Corsa models were also locally built. However, when GM had financial difficulties a couple of years ago, they stopped production of all models here. Instead, they only manufacture the Corsa Utility ( LDV ) which is now badged as a Chevrolet. As far as I know, the Astra H was the last Astra built here. We didn't get the Vectra at all. The Omega was a full import. We also didn't get as many different engine options as the UK etc g -- Last edit: 2012-05-30 20:38:51 |
