According to original concept art, there were plans to make Doc a 47-50 Packard instead. I suppose they couldn't explain his flying cormorant hood ornament...

Well yeah, "The fabulous Packard Super/Custom Eight" doesn't really roll off the tongue, besides, Packard was not in the stock racing business like Hudson in real life.
