Weren't there pictures where it was very visible? I was remembering that when they used it there were close views of the front. |

Just for fun, I did some research/calculations (lot of guesswork here); Gates says (at the end) they have 23 million in gold. (I don't remember if this figure is different from the one at the beginning, which it would be if Gates corrected for the bars they gave the refugees.) In 1991, gold was worth just under 600 US$ per ounce. 23,000,000/600= 38333 Troy oz = 2630lbs, 1.31 (US) tons, 1190Kg. The point of this (some of it) was to figure out if this truck could hold that much, but I can't find the cargo capacity on these. All I got was that they're Class 3, which has a GVW of 10,000-16,000 lbs. So, probably. The bars in the movie seem to be about the size of 400oz (12.5 Kg) London Good Delivery bars, most gold bars are much smaller (the most widely traded size is 1kg) and not in the classic 'gold bar shape'. The way they're handled in the movie makes it look as if they don't weigh nearly that much. Which they don't, because they're props. |

And anyway I doubt that they could carry that gold in the bag that they used before putting it in the truck. That gold-weight problem occurs in many movies. In the French movie "La soif de l'or" they put 1 ton of gold in the trunk of a Renault 21 /vehicle_3111-Renault-21-Nevada.html |

So they are probably aware of the difficulties to sell a used R21 without any extras... |
