Still on German plates - are they genuine?

The front plate is missing, but the back one looks quite authentic from this angle and distance. The two stickers for the registration (silver, previous white) and for the TÜV-inspection (the coloured) are there.
No hint, that it's this rubbish: http://www.germanplates.com/

Where were the Amphi-Ranger company based? Maybe they loaned the car for product placement purposes or more likely shipped one over to test the waters in the US market?

It's written, that it was a special vehicle for the maintance of pipelines and ony very rarely sold to private persons. Back in the late 80ies, I've asked the company for a sales brochure and got one :) Later on I've swapped it on a meeting of the German car literature collector's club. I remember, that the pic of the dashboard was just taken from the Granada II-brochure.

Less than 85 made - http://www.wired.com/autopia/2011/03/show-and-display/?pid=762 - "We haven't found evidence of one in the United States, but if you've seen one please let us know."

Fun compilation of floating things with wheels - Link to "retrorides.proboards.com" .
