When did metallics first appear? If 68+ this becomes a 280SL. Not sure of the visible wheel detail here to separate as either 230/250 or 280. |

I clearly remember a Gold metallic 250 SL automatic owned by a phisician till the mid 70's. |

According to this page, which I find rather trustworthy, the paint code might be 1963-71 180 G http://www.sl113.org/wiki/DataCard/PaintCodes . |

Interesting site. Even if it's not 180 G most of the other similar shades are 63+, so colour idea was a dead end. Am used to many UK mainstream makes first getting metallics from about 67-68, but I suppose it makes sense for a prestige make like Merc to have been a few years earlier. Changing to 63+ 230. |
