This movie was based on a real story: the legendary Commissario Spatafora and a "little" personal gift, two black 250 GTE, Enzo Ferrari made to Rome's Squadra Mobile (Police Patrol). It is true that a car chase ended in Piazza di Spagna after jumping down the stairs of Trinità dei Monti. One of the two 250 GTE, with "scars" in the underbody, now rests in the Museo delle Pantere Storiche, a collection of vintage italian Police car. Why Panthers? Because the first car made on purpose for the italian Police , the Alfa Romeo 1900 with bullet-proof windscreen, bullet-proof tyre protections etc, was painted in black. |

Uncovering the Ferrari, the mechanic talks about the scene, who mentions Beppe above: Then the Ferrari gets a little make-up an willl be used to chase the bad boys: -- Last edit: 2010-06-18 13:11:42 |

In the real life the bad boys' car was an Alfa Romeo 2500; after the stairs "parade", three weels broken, gearbox too. The Ferrari left on the ground the gearbox and a rear suspension. |

This movie isn't exactly based on the Spatafora/GTE story it's just that this historic background is used as the backstory of a character who goes by a different name but is obviously based on Spatafora. Still the movie tells an unrelated fictional story taking place 10-15 years later. ...also this is yet another GTE that donated its chassis to build something else this time a cutaway GTO replica for display purposes(!) as the above barchetta.cc link will now show... so sadly this car is no more.
