Is this a 1978 Monaco or a '77? |
◊ 2007-12-23 16:09 |
It's a 77 Dodge Monaco ( Royal ? ) I'm sure ![]() |

(1)It's not a "Royal Monaco",that's a different car? (That's like the car in the opening credits of "Hill Street Blues")(2) I seem to recall this was the one unit he didn't tear up/get torn up/wasn't torn up when he got it?? |

That's right, a "Royal Monaco" was different--one like the cop cars on "Hill Street Blues." Most of the time this '77 Monaco of Hunter's he didn't tear up...but once in a while it would get smashed or blown up. But, the "car-man" on the police lot always had an identical model for Hunter on hand. The dark green 1977 Dodge Monaco was Hunter's signature car...even though part way into last season he got a brand new 1990 Silver Ford Crown Victoria. |

Thanks, Dave Starsky, for clearing this up! I'm a major "Hunter" fan and I've always wondered which year his car was. |

Thank you ... ![]() Is this car, the personnal Rick Hunter's car or is it a standardized police car ? Because in the diferent season, Rick change many times of car ??? |

It was technically a police issue vehicle...but since it was older and they knew Hunter was frequently getting in car chases/wrecks, they let him use it as his personal car too. As for different ones...before he started using the well-known dark green Monaco, Hunter did have a couple other colors of the same kind of car---a junker brown one, junker yellow one, and the one right before the dark green one was a black one. |

Poor Rick, he never had a car where all the doors opened correctly... |
◊ 2008-05-17 12:38 |
Yes ... but he's got also some cars where the driver door was missing ! ! ![]() |

For the last season of the show, after McCall had left, they must have decided to have Hunter "grow-up" some and be more professional. He went from jeans and a sports jacket to a full suit and his trusty dark green Monaco was gone. He now had a brand new silver 1990 Ford Crown Victoria. He finished out the series with that car. |

Hunter's first car was a navy blue Monaco. His first chase included a Dukes-of-Hazzard-style jump. From ep 1.01: ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I didn't see one of the Monaco he had ... I remember him, having a very clean Clear Bronze Metallic version of the '77 Monaco ... Maybe it's coming later in the next seasons ? |

Yes, these clips and the "Dukes-of-Hazzard" jump in the blue Monaco are from the "Pilot" TV movie "Hunter" that was what "kicked" the actual series off the ground. This was one of the worst cars he ever had to use and was so dangerous that there's no way in reality it would have been used in any form of police business LOL!! Hunter actually used several different Monacos before finally getting his trademark one that we all remember or associate him with--the dark green one. But, as seen in other clips above, during 2nd and 3rd seasons he used several different Monacos: A "junker" yellow one, a light brown one, and a black one. There may also have been a light blue Monaco...been a while, I'll have to watch this show again soon (have the entire series on DVD). I agree with the comment with the clips of the junker yellow one...there's no way they'd of allowed any car to be used for police business without taillights. ![]() The brown Monaco was also used in second season...as I think I remember it from the 2-part "Rape & Revenge"--also one of my favorites. The black Monaco might have been used in 2nd season too...but I mainly remember it being used throughout season 3. It wasn't until the end of season 3 or season 4 that the signature Monaco Hunter used was finally introduced...the dark green one. The dark green Monaco was used until part way into the last (7th) season...when Hunter got promoted and was given a brand new silver 1990 Ford Crown Victoria. |

Actually, I've started capping Season 3 and the dark green Monaco has been in the first 6 eps. |

Maybe...like I said it's been a while since I've watched the show. But I'm usually pretty good about remembering when what cars were used or first introduced. I don't remember the green one in the beginning of season 3 though?? I mainly remember the black one being used in most of Season 3...sometimes in scenes with "off" or darker lighting you might think it's the green one (I did when I first started watching the show again several years ago in reruns--I also grew up with it) but when they drive into the sun or brighter lighting you can see it's the black one. The green one was used in and around the time of the 2-part "Hot Pursuit"--aka the famous chase scene where Hunter jumps it to try and catch a bad guy...but it slams into a semi and explodes instead. This scene was then later used in the starting of season 4. The black one was also in pretty good condition and I'm not sure why they didn't just have Hunter use that one for the rest of the show?? -- Last edit: 2010-12-15 09:04:24 |

Maybe I'm thinking of season 2 with the black Monaco? I'ts been a couple years since I've watched the show straight through. It still seems like the first part of season 3 is still the black Monaco...but maybe it is the green one. I know he has the green one towards the middle or end of season 3...as like I stated earlier he ends up jumping, crashing, and getting it blown up in Pt. 1 of the 2-part "Hot Pursuit." In Part 2 he gets another identical green one. I'll have to watch the show again soon. |

Hunter's beloved green Monaco gets one last hurrah in Episode 7.01. In the very first scene, he literally crashes into his new co-star, Darlanne Fluegel. He drives a brown one for the rest of the episode and in Ep. 7.02. From there Captain Devane and Hunter move from Homicide to the Metro division, to run a crime task force. For that he got a shiny new Crown Vic.![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Ep 7.09: ![]() -- Last edit: 2012-11-16 22:45:54 |

I wonder if this car had a 400 or a 440. It appears to be an actual police package car. |

I seem to recall that in the episode it was in it just had bare red bulbs hanging down from the wiring harnesses. |
