Just like the 'Trabant' the 'Wartburg', too, is a not a maker but model name. The maker is VEB Automobilwerk Eisenach, formerly BMW (Bayerische Motoren Werke, Werk Eisenach), and EMW (Eisenacher Motorenwerk). The Wartburg 353 was produced between 1966 and 1988, with new engines until 1991. |

The 'make' field is too short! |

Wartburg 353 (1966) ((from VEB Automobilwerk Eisenach)) ((This is comparable with the RR Phantom from BMW Group)) |

When I was kid I remember that there were Wartbug catalogs etc. : nowhere the "VEB Automobilwerk Eisenach" was displayed, it was sold as a car made by Wartburg. |

Actually for most of the makes the company is different than the make name. Like Citroëns are made by PSA, Opels are made by GM, etc. So I would agree with Ralph: Wartburg seems to be the make even if it is not a company name. -- Last edit: 2005-10-26 16:06:50 |

I think this particular car in the photo is much newer as 1966, this is one with black bumpers. Earlier models had non painted bumpers, so I guess late seventies, earlie eighties for this one? Can anybody confirm this? -- Last edit: 2006-03-16 19:30:32 |
