Yeah...they started filming in mid to late 2011 so most of the vehicles used for this first season are 2011 models. |

The S 400 is I think only availeable as BlueHYBRID |
◊ 2012-07-07 21:49 |
I've seen a S400 referred to as a BlueHybrid, and just a Hybrid. To be honest, I'm not an expert with "hybrids" and don't really know what or if there is a difference between a "blue" hybrid and just a hybrid? -- Last edit: 2012-07-07 21:50:46 |

This one is black, not blue. BlueHybrid is the name Mercedes give to their Hybrid models. Just a branding exercise really. |
◊ 2012-07-07 22:22 |
It appears black in this pic...but watching the actual episode it appears to be possibly a dark blue color. But, thanks for clarifying the BlueHybrid and Hybrid question. |

Regarding the 'Blue': BlueTEC is CDI (Diesel) with a way of reducing NOx by adding - 'AdBlu' or urea, BlueEFFICENCY is an - well - efficency option (Start/stop system, low-resistace tires and so on), BlueHYBRID is electric and gas hybrid. This is the short version. |
◊ 2012-07-07 22:48 |
okay, now I'm confused again. Are you saying there is a hybrid called a BlueTEC hybrid, and that's a diesel one? Then there's also the BlueHybrid and that's the gas or electric one? |
◊ 2012-07-07 23:12 |
@HunterMan: BlueTec is Mercedes-Benz's name for a method for reducing exhaust gases (mainly NOx i.e nitrous gases or nitrogen and oxygen together in different variations) by adding a mixture of urea and water (AdBlue) in order to pass modern emission demands. A bit technical, but there's actually much more to it. This is by no means a hybrid, the AdBlue is mixed in at a calculated rate. This is their green 'alibi'. The BlueHybrid is (if I got it right) just a name for the general gasoline/electric hybrid solution by Mercedes-Benz, this is a hybrid meaning it can run on either system. |
◊ 2012-07-07 23:13 |
Okay, gotcha...I think. That makes more sense. |
◊ 2012-07-07 23:22 |
Actually, just to add to the confusion - AdBlue is added after the combustion, and is not adding power to the engine - even if it will not run well without it. |

Yes, "Blue" systems are mostly named for the addition of an aqueous urea solution called diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) which is sprayed into the exhaust system of a diesel powered vehicle to neutralize nitrogen oxide levels for cleaner exhaust emissions. Blue vehicles will have an additional tank that contains the DEF or AdBlue solution. The system will empty over time, and must be refilled. The solution itself is not necessarily blue in color, but rather a clear, colorless and odorless liquid. Regarding the Mercedes-Benz S 400, none are branded as BlueHybrid here in the U.S., although I find it funny it has two BlueHybrid badges on the front fenders. The rear badge set includes Hybrid, but without Blue. Showcased on Mercedes-Benz’s website as a hybrid with the Hybrid name, also without Blue. Someone at Mercedes apparently can’t make their mind up what to call it, so they split the difference. The BlueHybrid uses a gasoline engine paired with lithium-ion (Li-Ion) batteries, so the "Blue" in the name is rather arbitrary. The vehicle does not use a diesel engine, and thus does not use the DEF neutralization system. -- Last edit: 2013-01-18 02:01:55 |

I wonder if we will ever see JR driving again and if so I wonder if he will also be driving a Merc as he always did in the original. |
◊ 2012-07-08 00:09 |
It is called S 400 Hybrid, not BlueTECHybrid. http://www.mbusa.com/mercedes/vehicles/model/class-S/model-S400HV |

Are you taking the piss? |
◊ 2012-07-08 06:28 |
When you say "Merc"...I assume you mean a Mercury. J.R. never drove a Mercury in the original series...he drove several Reseda Green Mercedes Benz until the last few seasons of the show...then he drove a Silver Cadillac Allante Convertible. I too have been wondering if we'll see him driving again in this new series, and if so what car? -- Last edit: 2012-07-08 06:29:55 |

No I actually meant a Mercedes-Benz. Sorry the thought of a Mercury didn't even cross my mind since we don't get them here in South Africa and therefore we someone says a Merc we know they are talking about a Mercedes. |
◊ 2012-07-09 05:09 |
Oh...gotcha! "Merc" has been a nick-name for Mercurys for years in the U.S. Anyway, I hope J.R. does drive something at some point, and it should be a Mercedes. |
