From the wheels it is Ford-based. Side valve V8 with three carbs. |

List as "Custom Made based on Ford V8"? |

I think some research will determine exactly what it is. |

With a C-type Jag? Probably an airfield circuit for straw bales and bollards? Is Sebring a possibility? |

Supposedly Bondurant driving. If so, this is probably from prior to August 1958, when he bought this Corvette. -- Last edit: 2012-07-16 05:46:51 |

Could this be a modified Morgan Plus 4? The article I linked at the Corvette's page mentions one. |

Not a Morgan. Bondurant's driving career at http://www.racingsportscars.com/driver/archive/Bob-Bondurant-USA.html does not give anything like this. |

Now I see; had the wrong episode. This one interviewed Tommy Sparks and the car is from his Sparks & Bonney days. I'm guessing it's a California Sports Car Club event. Look what's in third at Paramount Ranch on 8 December 1957. Along with foreign sports cars, road-racing circuits attracted clever hot rodders who campaigned low-buck, one-off "sports specials" with American V8 power. Tommy built and drove this one for owner Jacques Bellisiles. It was powered by a Sparks & Bonney 3/8x3/8 flattie. -- Last edit: 2012-07-16 16:07:28 |

Probably not - Tommy Sparks here and Art Sparks for the other one (which was a 1938 build originally as Sparks-Thorne Little 6 - http://www.conceptcarz.com/vehicle/z13634/Sparks-Thorne-Little-6.aspx ). |

Great to see the Sparks Manning V8 Special here. You might like to see a video of the same car at www.youtube.com/watch?v=s8K_F2ogd6c This was sent me by David Steele, Executive Director - American Hot Rod Foundation - www.ahrf.com who said "This is particularly special for me because at no later than the 5 second mark we see my dear old friend and mentor, Tommy Sparks, pulling a wheel/tire off of the Sparks and Bonney Special at age 28. This is followed by what I feel is some incredibly important and up close footage of the famous but failed “Copper Flow” brakes that Margolian and Manning tried to develop and market. No surprise, both Sparks and Jacques reported that they were more than inadequate! Enjoy this great footage, in case you haven’t already seen it. It really made my week! " This car does not exist any more but the 1952 Streets Manning Special is alive and racing ecvery year in the Rolex Monterey Historic Reunion and Velocity Invitational, both in California. dmtrg.com/2017/09/02/rob-manson-1952-streets-manning-special/ and www.facebook.com/MontereySportsCarRoadRacers/ With greetings to all readers Marcus Bicknell DEL MONTE TROPHY RACE GROUP Rob Manson, PO Box 1003, 338 West Carmel Valley Road, Carmel Valley, CA 93924 , USA r3teknon@sbcglobal.net Intl office: Marcus Bicknell, Homefarm Orchard, Kirby Close, Chalfont St Giles, Bucks HP8 4FF, UK Skype mbicknell marcus@bicknell.com |
