 Because of the big inlet manifold it has to be a B230E engine with Bosch CI fuel injection.
That was standard equipment on 740 GLE without catalyst, or before late 1988. Cars with catalyst had a number of different electronically governed fuel injection systems.

Therefore I say it's a 740 GLE.
