Dear DSL, Mini Clubman Estate actually arrived in Italy at the end of 1969 but it was too expensive in opposition to the Innocenti Mini T ( = Traveller). Since mid 1972 EVERY UK MINI was no more imported. The Mini Clubman Estate was reimported with greater success since November 1974 (as UK was in the European Community and its goods were no more affected by high import dities). In the summer 1976 for only three months even saloons arrived. The re-import of saloon Minis from UK began in the spring of 1982. I hope to habe been clear; for any further question, please ask. If I can I will tell. |

Thanks - very clear; would be fun to find one of the 1st 69-70 batch or one of the 1976 saloons. This one has door mirrors not wing (=73+UK) so is 2nd period of I imports. -- Last edit: 2012-08-04 20:02:07 |

I never saw Estates of the first period registrered in Italy, but I saw a few Clubamn saloon. You probably know that the Clubman front end was never made by Innocenti. I can clearly recal a 1971 white Clubamn saloon parked in Sicily near a fantastic ice cream seller that I attended in order to buy ice creas in 1972. At the time I was 11 years old but its memory is like today's. Another saloon was driven in Turin by an elderly lady in the late 80's and the car was I think in the colour named "tundra", if I remember well, a sort of medium brownish green. It was in great conditions. 1976 saloons were strangely more at least in Turin. I saw half a dozen, in white, in a sort of green very close to the British racing classic one, and particularly most in a maroon (very dark red). -- Last edit: 2012-08-04 22:48:47 |
