 I'd give it a 64+ S4 date - simple side trim, big windscreen, rubber on overriders, possibly orange indicators.

 The 1958 trim and the 1964 trim appear identical to me. Was there any reason they switched back? Lack of creativity?

How dare you sir! Rootes had a change in philosophy about 62/63 after several years of adding extra/thicker/shinier chrome, and started simplifying the trim so that the underlying elegance of their styling could become more apparent. They also tidied the window shapes on Minx/Super Minx/Humbers but saloons only - estates kept old outline. For the Hawk, the S4 trim was similar to S1, as you say, but without the pastel 2 tone colour combinations.

 The forward-thinking Rootes designers finally introduced synchromesh on bottom gear (as fitted to the 1934 Alvis Speed 20) on this model - in 1964!
