A 8976. Well known 1907 Napier 60hp (Cylinder capacity 7983 cc), which is DVLA listed until V5c change in 1987, then presumably went on overseas adventures including display at Louwman Museum (although no longer listed in their online catalogue). A 1968 auction catalogue lists it as "A 8976 1907 Napier 60hp Sports 2-seater (ex-John Fenton + Reginald Lewis)". Google hits usually refer to A 8976 as the "S.F.Edge" car, probably explained by this quote from another 60hp auction listing for SH 294: "At the end of June 1907 Edge led a team of three 60hp Napiers in an assault on the world 24-hour speed record at Brooklands. He succeeded admirably, averaging 65.9 mph and creating a record that stood for 18 years, whilst the other two stock Type 21 cars averaged 64.1 and 63.5 mph respectively. The event achieved world-wide publicity and added to the demand for Napier motorcars and the respect in which they were held." And it's been on a Top Trumps card |
