Very cool scene of a gray `85-`88 BMW 528e (doubt it is a 535i) driving fast and loosing control (spinning out). Great shots of the car: aerial (birds eye view), close-ups of tires locking, and front-end. Richard Gere is a passenger when his girlfriend looses control, and later drives the car after her hospitalization (before buying an Audi A8 - which develops the usual electrical problems in later scenes - should have stuck with the 528e). There's a cool close-up of the grill in which the demon/spirit leaves it's signature mark shaped like a Y. The car is used for only about 3-5 min. during the film. Worth seeing though. It's confirmed now (I recently studied the scene)...this 528e is an `86-`87. It has a 3rd Brake light (back window) so it's an `86-on. And it has a single exhaust which means it can't be an `88, since in `88 the "super" eta engine was used, which had dual pipes. Some E28 enthusiasts will notice that the windshiled wipers are installed incorrectly on this car - clearly visible in the close-up of windshield, when the car is spinning. -- Last edit: 2006-03-27 17:52:55 |

Here is a video-link of the scene with this 528e. The scene with the car is 1:39-4:08. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pWhx0F-lnmM |

FYI… I actually have this car…have a script that came with it as well as the mic that was set up in the cabin. Also have a copy of the title from Mothman Productions. Pretty funny. This is a 1988 528e. Yes, it has the super eta engine but the dealership put on a single exhaust before the production co. purchased it. As far as the wipers; they are wrong. I've yet to put them back on. Also, it's an automatic. And if you need better images, I have them ![]() -- Last edit: 2008-11-11 03:59:26 |
