There's more to enjoy in this movie than this van, you know. But it does have a memorable role, and there's a great bit of driving when they get to the contest. The weird Hoover family travel in this van from Albuquerque, New Mexico to California, but early on in the journey the clutch gets broken and first and second gear won't work, so the mechanic tells them they can get it moving in third gear, they just need to be going downhill, or they have to push it. Because of this, the father (Greg Kinnear), refuses to stop unless absolutely necessary, which leads to some funny sequences. And the horn gets jammed at some point. |

Exposed gas filler cap places model year between 1976 & 1979. Sliding side windows makes it a 1978 or 1979. |

I always like to think this Volkswagen Bus' nickname is actually "Little Miss Sunshine" though. Really fits her well, especially in the movie's story, too.  |
