Used by some NATO-troops in its first life? It has the camouflage-light (allowed only in war-times) @rljuna2: a tiny bulb in the middle of the white cross. |

I think it is a Thyssen Rheinsthal UR-416 (note the similar cross on the rear): http://www.armourbook.com/uploads/forum/posts/1242584911_4.jpg -- Last edit: 2012-09-19 01:35:00 |

i used to spend hours driving in UNIMOG following this cross, without knowing anything! http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leitkreuz -- Last edit: 2012-09-19 18:31:38 |

Whatever this is, I am unsure it's a UR-416. This is a UR-416 - /vehicle_158280-Thyssen-Rheinstahl-UR-416-1969.html - and it has a completely different body shape and rear. The vehicle Badlymad linked to isn't a UR-416, either. -- Last edit: 2012-10-15 18:28:46 |

Looking into it again, I've found out that the vehicle is the Landsverk Unimog armored car, as seen here: http://weaponsystems.net/weapon.php?weapon=CC01+-+Landsverk+Unimog They were used by the Belgian Gendarmes in the Congo and were based on a Mercedes Unimog chassis. wasn't built for the Congolese but rather the Irish, they left a Ton of them behind and then they fell into the hands of the Congolese army, and then were "stolen" by the mercenaries from a depot after the Congolese army refused to give them ANY armored support in fear of them being damaged |
