XLT trim wheels? |

2012-2013 model in Limited trim. The "EcoBoost" badge is visible on the liftgate. The gas-miser 2.0 EcoBoost inline-four engine was introduced for the 2012 model year. Its only available in front-wheel drive form. It makes 240 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque, which is okay, but the Explorer is rather heavy, tipping the scales at around 3 tons. Road tests all seem to bad-mouth Ford’s decision to offer the small 2.0 engine in the large Explorer. Its described as insufferably slow with that engine. The 3.5 TiVCT V-6 or the 3.5 twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V-6 (same one used in the Taurus SHO) are recommended for those who want to the Explorer to "haul-ass". |
