This vehicle is a 1938 Austin 12/4 pick-up truck based on a Low Loader taxi chassis. It started life as a mobile canteen (never was a taxi)and used as such during the second world war. After the war it was bought by a firm of stone masons in South London (Haysomes) and used right up until the early 1960's to transport headstones. Then it was given to the Vintage Austin Register. It passed through several hands (including mine) in an attempt to restore it, and (at the time of the filming) it was owned by a Mr G. Morris of Pinner (Middx). The vehicle is now owned by a VAR member in Cambridgeshire and is still used regularly. The film, by the way was entitled 'Dr Phibes Rises Again' - a great spoof horror classic.
