JM1 now owned by Sir John Madejski, founder of Auto Trader magazine, chairman of Reading Football Club and many other interests - rumoured to be worth £250 million, he is in the top 200 wealthiest people in Britain. He has 1JM on a Rolls Royce Corniche, JM1 on a Rolls Royce Silver Spur Limousine and JM2, a Jaguar XJ 220. He also has cars with JM19, B1BYE and TGF140. |

The plate is an irrelevance, it's of no help in identifying the car. We can be certain that it's a Royce, probably. It looks too small for a Phantom, maybe, but as the coachwork has a mid to latish thirties look and the radiator is aligned with the centres of the front wheels, there's a strong chance it's a 25/30, perhaps. But that coachwork - there are so many styling clues that conflict one with another that I'm struggling. The front wings suggest Park Ward with their rolled edges. The drooping moulding along the waistline is used by H J Mulliner and also Barker, but, going on the general appearance and the shape described by the wings and running board, and the streamlined parking lights above them, and with no confidence at all, I'm going to say Thrupp and Maberly. http://www.flickr.com/photos/clicks_1000/441106540/ I know it's a saloon and not a sedanca, but to me, this is the work of the same designer. Any body got a better idea? -- Last edit: 2013-02-27 20:46:50 |

1937 Rolls-Royce 25/30 Sedanca de Ville by H.J.Mulliner, Chassis GAR60, body 4450, originally supplied to G.Hern. Reg.nr. JM1 actually was on this car far a while, but it was reverted to DNY90, its original number.. |
