1998 Ghia 16V Automatic, made for GB due to the market-specific model name. This later version with darker headlights was only produced for less than a year, so something of a rarity.

This has the revamped grille (wich the logo in the middle instead of the top part of the surround) which was supposed to be an improvement to the unpopular design

As Captain Slow describes as "gopping"! :D
BTW, should this be 3/4 stars? This is the backup car.

Not registered as exported and SORN'd until February 2014. Strange.

On another note, what a tremendous waste of money to export this to Africa and have it featured for probably less than a minute in total. The "sinking" part was totally unspectacular and shot from a far distance away, probably because it was attached to a chain so it could be pulled straight out of the river. If they were going to crash it, I'd have expected something rather more dramatic.

They didn't need to export it officially if they didn't want to register it somewhere else. Here it kept its plate, it was just a travel I guess.

Assuming it did actually sink when they showed it - I wasn't convinced by the scene. Also noted that earlier (I think in Pt1) when everyone had equipped their cars locally, one of them (James Volvo I think) had a calendar with May 2012 - appropriately enough - to suggest when filming occurred.

It is my understanding that all cars that leave the UK permanently are supposed to be declared exported, whether or not they actually intend to register it abroad. It can either be taxed, SORN'd, declared exported or declared scrapped. If the "call of destruction" (aka the declaration of scrapping) doesn't happen in the UK, then it still has to be declared exported.
