To be honest, I think it should get 4 or 5 stars. |

For a bit of backstory into the Oshkosh in the movie Snow Day, My uncle owned the truck before and after Paramount bought and sold back the truck for the movie, Paramount also needed him to drive the truck for all the drive by scenes as they needed someone experienced in operating it. After the movie was out, my uncle took the truck to the Calgary Stampede for people to take photos with, he charged money for it but donated it all to a charity researching Leukaemia as a family member was diagnosed with it at the time. he no longer owns it but does have some photos of it. |

This is actually a pretty rare and interesting truck. When Oshkosh started producing trucks with the "newer" sloped cab design, they initially built them with chrome trim stripes running along the side of the cab. This was done up until the 1972 MY, when Oshkosh removed the chrome styling and just used the cabs without it being added. (It should also be noted that early W-Series and M-Series were sometimes rebuilt with the newer cabs. Explaining why some trucks with MYs from the 50's and even 40's have this cab style) - Pre-1972 Cab Design (Chrome) -------- 1972+ Cab Design (No-Chrome) - As we can see, this truck has chrome trim on the side. (Albeit barely visible) So unless there's some crazy modifications going on here, this truck is older than 1972. Starting in the 1971 MY, Oshkosh introduced a new square grill design with a 6-column style on it. This was first implemented on the R-Series models. P-Series models still used the 4-column grill design with a rounded shape for a few more years still. ------ 1971+ 6-Column Square Grill ---------- Original 4-Column Grill - So this truck has both the original Chrome-trim cab design, and a 1971+ square hood, which is a very odd combination. This is Oshkosh of course, so this combination is entirely possible if a company or someone ordered it this way. And given that this movie was filmed in Canada, my best guess is that this was a special-order truck that Oshkosh custom built specifically for Canada. But given what details we have, the only year this combination would have been possible is 1971. -> 1971 Oshkosh P-Series (Origin USA, Made for Canada) Note: Given this truck's uniqueness I'm not going to try and decode the exact model as it's pretty likely Oshkosh might've given it its own designation. I wish that KrazyKanuck had provided more info in his comment but what can you do... -- Last edit: 2024-09-24 17:53:57 |
