I correct myself, it seems that at least some were still called Rabbit:![[Image: rabbit010420lh7.8016.jpg]](http://pics.imcdb.org/0is76/rabbit010420lh7.8016.jpg) But others were "Cabriolet", cf that one. Maybe that the "Convertible" name is only for the restyled mk1 Golf convertible, which was procuded at the same time at the mk2 Golf hatchback (then called Golf rather than Rabbit in North-America) ? I didnt think any of them were called Rabbit in US first they were Cabriolet and then just Cabrio, could this have been filmed outside of US? |

looks more like the owner just slapped a Rabbit badge on it. kinda like how Jetta III owners put Vento badges. still think it's just "cabriolet" |

I believe the earliest ones in the U.S. were called "Rabbit Cabriolet," then some time in the '80s it was shortened to just "Cabriolet." |

1986 or later VW Rabbit L made for USA. Federally mandate side marker. It has Federally mandate CHMSL mounted on the trunk. Karmann assembled from Germany. This convertible retain old style Body, taillight clusters and bumper design. |

You can tell whether it is a rabbit cabriolet versus the cabriolet because of the body styles, the rabbit is based upon the mk1 rabbit body style with single circle headlights where as the cabriolet is based on the mk2 golf which replaced the rabbit in the 80's with the dual headlights. |

The car in the main picture is a 1980-82 Rabbit Convertible (the bumpers and more importantly the black stone guard on the front of the rear fender are sure signs of that) The thumbnail is either another car (1986+ Cabriolet with Rabbit L badge stuck on) or it is the same car that has been wrecked and the decklid was replaced with one from a Cabriolet -- Last edit: 2010-08-05 06:16:18 |
