As discussed here, swages were probably added to all Hunters in Oct 55, not just the 75 (which only about 20 prototypes/pre-pros made before it was chopped). So unlikely now this is a 75. |

I had forgotten the HRG connection, odd really considering the initials. So it seems there was a twinc cylinder head, maybe necessary to squeeze 75 bhp out of a normally aspirated carburettor 1500 cc engine in 1955. Still very much the last gasp of a dying organisation, and how old was Leo Shorter by then? (If still in harness.) Old designs, old fashioned looks, high selling prices due to an inefficient factory layout and few economies of scale, one does wonder why Rootes bought it. There must have been a plan beyond eliminating another competitor. |
