 this was actually the camera car used for the on track footage, you can see it mounted up front

 McQueen's own 1969 Porsche 908K “Flunder” Spyder (chassis 908-022) in which he and Revson had finished 2nd in the 1970 Sebring 12 Hours. This was repainted and fitted with cameras to run in the 1970 Le Mans 24 hrs to capture authentic race footage
