obviousely to leave for dsl, so may i ask you: do you have bad weather in UK, too? Not a single sunbeam here today, to let the tiger out. -- Last edit: 2013-05-27 03:11:31 |

Sadly not a Tiger (no chrome side strip, and wrong wing badge) but an Alpine S2 - it's all about the screen pillars. Sunny day in Glasgow today. |

Unfortunately both your links have been modified slightly from original. Very briefly main differences (apart from badges) and liable to changes for restos and hot-rodding: - Alpine S1 - long rear fins, fine barred grille, small round front minor lights, wrap-round windscreen without quarterlights, chrome fitting on screen pillar comes up only part way for 2nd stub eg http://pics.imcdb.org/0is139/sunbeamalpine5wx1.5265.jpg [11,904 made] - Alpine S2 - identical except 2nd stub screen pillar chrome now full height (as here) [19,956 made] - Alpine S3 - still long rear fins and mesh grille, new flatter windscreen with quarterlights - /vehicle_79136-Sunbeam-Alpine-1963.html [5,863 made] - Alpine S4 - as S3 but new shorter rear fins, single bar grille, bigger combined front sidelights - /vehicle_35849-Sunbeam-Alpine-1964.html [12,406 made] - Alpine S5 - as S4 but loses SUNBEAM lettering above grille - /vehicle_245355-Sunbeam-Alpine-1966.html [19,122 made] - Tiger S1 - as Alpine S4 with chrome side strip - /vehicle_69881-Sunbeam-Tiger-1965.html . Should have SUNBEAM lettering above grille, but this disappears on some cars [6,495 made] - Tiger S2 - as Tiger S1, with new egg-crate grille, new Sunbeam bonnet badge, sticker side tapes on sills, but no side chrome. /vehicle_19488-Sunbeam-Tiger-1967.html . Very rare - only 633 Tiger 2s made - almost all LHD, and only 27 RHD sold in UK. Production figures from Robson - means most common were S2 and S5 at about 19,000 each, then fairly common S1 and S4 at 12,000 each, rare-ish S3 and Tiger S1 about 6,000 each, and Tiger S2 as holy grail, especially RHD. -- Last edit: 2013-06-11 16:33:21 |

S'Ok. Always good to have opportunity to explain my rules - gives other people a chance to use them, or even to point out any errors. Rainy Glasgow today - no sunbeams. |

dsl, may I venture to suggest that this is a series III or later? It appears to have quaterlights and I believe the shield badge on the front wing denoting the series only came in with the series III. I'm also not convinced (although it isn't very clear) that this isn't a IV or V based on what you can see of the rear wing profile. Happy to be corrected though! Hal |

OK - I'll run with S4 or S5 for your comments. Some of our S4 have side wing plaque and other don't - any idea why?? All S5 do have it, and as more S5 than S4 made, changed to S5. PS have added production figures to the models check list above. |

Probably down to the production line. I know of a chap who bought a Mk I Cortina brand new and it had a different trim level and badging on each side! |

I had a tour of Longbridge umpteen years ago and saw a couple of Allegros coming down the line with non-matching coachlines. |
