That was used on the lower grade (non Country Squire) wagons because the chrome rubstrip fit between the 2 pieces.The rubstrip is missing on the rear here, but it would have run all the way to the back. Mercury wagons are rare and few pictures can be found, but of them, I haven't seen one that had this style of reflector.
