The car in the background looks like a Buick. |

Looks like they are in an early 60s Cadillac Sedan DeVille 6 window....ca. 1962 |

This car has an autronic eye. For me the most crazy option on a car. This automatic dimer is not practical at all. -- Last edit: 2006-11-06 18:48:21 |

Do any cars made now feature an automatic dimming headlight function (though probably without that thing on the dashboard)? |

I think my Land Cruiser has that feature, although I’m not sure… I know it Has a auto dimming rearview mirror, and auto dimming outboard mirrors… |

same for my Cadillac, only for the rearview mirror (le retroviseur en français) |

I don't think it's Cadillac but the roof line and Autronic-Eye is definitely GM 1961-62. |

That's it! The door panels are clearly from a '62 DeVille model 6329. The car in the background is a 1965 Buick Electra 225 with a missing fender skirt. |

Autotronic eye. Does it dim the headlights (like the high beams/low beams switch) or just turns it on when it's dark and off when light? -- Last edit: 2006-11-07 07:01:31 |

The Autronic Eye (or Guide-Matic as it was called after 1959) dims the headlights. The Twilight Sentinel turns them on when it's dark and let them stay on for a few seconds after the ignition is shut off. http://www.futurliner.com/autronic.htm |

Are we sure about this being a Cadillac? Mr Cadillac didn't think so and it doesn't have leather seats. |
◊ 2006-11-16 09:25 |
100% sure, the car has seat covers and not all Cadillacs have leather seats anyway! And the door panels are unique to the 1962 DeVille model. This one is a 6 window hardtop model 6329. This body style was available only on Buicks Oldsmobiles and Cadillacs. |

I agree with "philr" that this door panel design is featured on the 1962 Cadillac 6-window "Sedan de Ville" (as well as the "Series 62" convertible, the "Coupe de Ville", the 4-window "Sedan de Ville" and the "Park Avenue Sedan de Ville". The seat pattern, however, does not match the door design, hence my initial doubts. In addition to style #6339, therefore, it could be also style #6329 or #6389. |

Chevrolet offered them as late as 1965: Link to "www.tocmp.com" Link to "www.tocmp.com" |
