Do I spy a Renault 16 up top for the Francophiles? |

Could be, I thought I even saw a Simca 1100. Was it available in the USA? -- Last edit: 2013-11-17 21:41:55 |

Simca 1100 was briefly sold in US as the 1204. |

A little but blurry, but I thought the red one is a Simca:![]() |

^ could be - the shape looks OK but impossible to be definite. Probably worth adding in comments on main film page as a possible. And the white in main above has convincing roof shape for an R16. |

I think the red car in the thumb is NOT a Simca 1100 but a Fiat 127. The scene is too full of European cars to be in the USA I feel. |

The police car seems to be the 1960's Oldsmobile here ![]() |

That is because the quality of the picture is low. Indeed it seems like a 127 now, but the back of the car has the typical 'Simca 1100-fold' (I don't know how to explain ![]() -- Last edit: 2013-11-18 08:16:05 |

For me the red car is a Fiat 127, I cannot see anything Simca 1100-ish. And yes, the white car in the pic above, is definitely a Renault 16. I think, that this scene was filmed in Europe, by all the cars in the backbround. The red car with the black cloth roof looks like a Renault 4. -- Last edit: 2013-11-18 08:41:39 |

Yes |

It's an odd choice for a New York City police car, but the scene was filmed in Greece aboard the derelict ocean liner SS Athinai and that car was probably the only American sedan that was quickly available. -- Last edit: 2013-11-21 05:30:55 |

The supplementary picture from garco is interesting. The white saloon top right is a full size Volvo saloon: 144, 244, 164, or 264 (cannot differentiate without seeing the full front wings). Behind it there is a Morris Marina 4-door in red - must be a masochistic British tourist. Behind that, there is a silver Ford Escort Mark 2 saloon; but there seems to be some lens distortion, this car is artificially tall. The blue saloon on our side of the Escort is a late-1950's Ponton Mercedes; and in front of that, I think there is a Glas 1800. But the red car which we have been arguing over - Fiat or Simca? It has two visible chrome door handles, but the line of the tailgate seems to be straight from the roof to the tail, without the "bustle" section in the Simca tailgate. Nor does it has the convex point in the front wing line of the Simca 1100. So ladies and gentlemen, even without looking up Seat paint colour charts, I believe this to be a Spanish-designed and built 4 or 5-door Seat 127. |
